Sidney Kimmel’s $150 million gift in 2001 was the largest single gift to Johns Hopkins Medicine since Mr. Hopkins’ own gift. Founder and chairman of Jones Apparel Group, Mr. Kimmel had no connection with Johns Hopkins until he became aware of its leading role in the fight against cancer after the death of a friend’s daughter. The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins now encompasses the Weinberg Building and the Bunting-Blaustein Cancer Research Building, and soon will include a new inn for patients and families.
